Seeing a chiropractor is a great way to find relief from chronic pain in your lower back. At Mapleview Chiropractic Centre, helping people with lower back pain is something we do every day at our clinic, but one thing we can’t stress enough is that what you do at home can also help you find relief. Here are some of our top tips for reducing your back pain at home:

• When your back hurts, you’re going to be less likely to get out there and move your body. But staying sedentary is exactly the thing that can make your pain worse. Even if you take it slow, try to keep moving and engage in some form of physical activity daily, even if it’s just going for a few short walks around the block.

Tips for Managing Your Back Pain at Home

• The muscles in your back need to be strong to support your back as you go about your day. Make strengthening your core part of your daily routine to find relief from lower back pain.
• Many people suffer from lower back pain because of poor posture, especially at work when they remain at a desk for most of the day. When you sit, keep your back straight and your feet flat on the floor. When you stand, stand up tall and keep your spine in alignment from your shoulders to your toes.
• If you’ve had a long day and your back is aching, use ice and heat to find some relief. While there’s some debate over whether ice or heat works best, use whichever one feels right for you and reducing your back pain.
